The Drogheda Grammar School ethos states:
"Every individual is of value and has something to contribute."
The DGS anti-bullying policy outlines procedures for dealing with incidences of bullying in the school. It is the ultimate aim of the school to eliminate bullying of all types at DGS.
Every student, on entering DGS, signs a code of behaviour contract which includes the following undertakings agreed to by the students and parents:
- To help build an atmosphere which is friendly and caring
- To behave appropriately inside and outside the classroom towards other students and staff
- To treat others as I would wish to be treated myself.
From now on, in line with the anti-bullying policy, a new undertaking is being added:
- Not to bully, intimidate, or in any way victimise anyone else.
Bullying includes the following types of behaviour:
- Pushing, kicking, hitting, punching, pinching, or any other form of physical force aimed at hurting, Trapping, or frightening another student
- Any form of intimidation or threat against another student
- Exclusion of another student from group activities
- Spreading rumours or gossiping about another student
- Making unpleasant comments about another student or his or her family or friends
- Any form of racial or sexual harassment or verbal abuse
- Name-calling
- Mocking another student
- Trying to embarrass another student
- Trying to get another student into trouble
- Hiding, damaging, or stealing another student's property
- Any other behaviour intended to hurt, upset, frighten, or annoy another student
While it is the aim of the school to eliminate bullying, it is accepted that incidences may occur, and procedures have been devised to deal with these.
