Drogheda Grammar School Policies

Drogheda Grammar School Admissions Policy

Every effort has been made to draft this policy and procedures in accordance with the provisions of education and equality legislation.

Drogheda Grammar School is a private fee-paying, co-educational, multi-denominational, boarding and day secondary school. The Grammar School welcomes students from a variety of traditions.
The Grammar School Ethos reflects the Quaker philosophy whereby, "Every individual is of value and has something to contribute." A fuller expansion of this statement can be found in the school prospectus.

The Board of Management includes all the Trustees plus two members of the teaching staff, two parents of students who attend the school and the Headmaster (Manager).
The Grammar School has an elected Parent Teacher Committee, an elected Student Council and a number of prefects.

Details of teaching resources, curriculum, extra-curricular activities and other general information can be found in the school prospectus obtained through the school office (Phone: 353-(0)41-9838281)

Drogheda Grammar School Anti-Bullying Policy

The Drogheda Grammar School ethos states:
"Every individual is of value and has something to contribute."

The DGS anti-bullying policy outlines procedures for dealing with incidences of bullying in the school. It is the ultimate aim of the school to eliminate bullying of all types at DGS.

Every student, on entering DGS, signs a code of behaviour contract which includes the following undertakings agreed to by the students and parents:

- To help build an atmosphere which is friendly and caring
- To behave appropriately inside and outside the classroom towards other students and staff
- To treat others as I would wish to be treated myself.

From now on, in line with the anti-bullying policy, a new undertaking is being added:
-  Not to bully, intimidate, or in any way victimise anyone else.

Bullying includes the following types of behaviour:

- Pushing, kicking, hitting, punching, pinching, or any other form of physical force aimed at hurting,   Trapping, or frightening another student
- Any form of intimidation or threat against another student
- Exclusion of another student from group activities
- Spreading rumours or gossiping about another student
- Making unpleasant comments about another student or his or her family or friends
- Any form of racial or sexual harassment or verbal abuse
- Name-calling
- Mocking another student
- Trying to embarrass another student
- Trying to get another student into trouble
- Hiding, damaging, or stealing another student's property
- Any other behaviour intended to hurt, upset, frighten, or annoy another student

While it is the aim of the school to eliminate bullying, it is accepted that incidences may occur, and procedures have been devised to deal with these.
