How To Apply

We have strived to make our application procedure as straightforward as possible.

1. The first step is to request an application form.  You can do this by contacting the office, simply telephone us or drop us a line. You can also download our application form from our website:  www.droghedagrammarschool.ie

2. Once we are in receipt of your child’s application form.  The form is placed on the file for the relevant year group.  If you child is still quite young, you will not hear from us for a while, but you may receive some mailing concerning our Open Evenings or news that we would like to share with you.  If you change your address or telephone number, please let the school office know in order for us to update your information.

3. Our Open Evening takes place in October each year and we traditionally write out to parents of fifth and sixth class to invite them to attend.

4. Places are offered to students in November and we would request that you confirm you child’s place in writing by return.  At this point the school requires a booking deposit of €300 to secure a place.  This deposit is retained until you child completes his/her education at Drogheda Grammar School. If you have decided that Drogheda Grammar School is not the school for your child, we would ask that you drop us a line to withdraw his/her name and we can then offer their place to another child.

5. Once your place is booked your child is well under way of becoming a DGS student. If you have not yet visited the school campus, we would encourage you to make an appointment to come along and visit the school in order to make your child’s transition from primary to secondary as easy and stress free as possible.

6. Copies of the previous year’s scholarship and assessment tests are distributed to primary schools in December.  You will also receive a letter in January informing you of the date and time of the scholarship and assessment tests and also information on what your child will need to bring along on the day.

7. Applications for Resource Hours are processed in March and parents are reminded to send copies of assessments to the school office in time for processing.

8. Bus transport forms will be issued to parents in January and should be sent back to the school as soon as possible, taking note of the deadline on the form.

9. Booklist/Uniform List and School Calendar are issued to parents in June and information concerning First Year Orientation is issued in August.

10. If at any time you have concerns or questions regarding your child’s transition from primary school to Drogheda Grammar School please do not hesitate to contact the admissions office.
