The Drogheda Grammar School Chess Team have had a very busy schedule in recent weeks. They have won the Inter-Schools All-Ireland Finals which takes entries from all the countries fee-paying schools, while they also took second place in the ChessZ All-Ireland finals in Limerick which is the largest schools tournament in the country.  On the day, they were beaten by half a point by St. Gerald’s College, Castlebar.  Piotr Baczkowski who is the current Grammar School Chess Captain went unbeaten all year in all competitions, to take first place as the All-Ireland Schools Individual Champion.  With the All-Ireland finished for another school year, the chess team now have their full attention on next week’s match against the De La Salle in Dundalk where victory would see them win the Louth Meath ‘Opening Minds’ Chess League to add even more trophies to their cabinets.
