ROME & SORRENTO October 2009

DAY 1:

Fly to Rome.Your Italian coach will transfer you to your Rome hotel.

Evening meal in Chef Express

Overnight: Rome.

DAY 2:

This morning will be spent in the Vatican City.You will have a guided tour of the Vatican Museum which incorporates the Sistine Chapel.Continue to St Peter's Basilica with an opportunity to ascend the dome

Afternoon guided tour of Classical Rome beginning at the Roman Forum and the Colosseum, two of Rome's most spectacular sights.

Evening meal in Chef Express

It is suggested you wander down to the Trevi Fountain this evening.

Overnight: Rome.

DAY 3:

You will be met at your hotel after breakfast by your Italian coach and transferred to the Sorrento area for the second half of your tour.Your group will stop en route at Herculaneum.

The eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD that buried the city of Pompeii also swept over this elegant Roman town, covering it with mud and lava.Unlike Pompeii, however, here woodwork and furniture were preserved, so that the finds from the long excavations are extremely interesting.

Villa of the Papyri, thestately retreat in Herculaneum of Julius Caesar's father-in-law, Lucius Calpurnius Piso is also located at Herculaneum

Overnight:Sorrento area.

DAY 4:

Full dayexcursion to Pompeii & Vesuvius.Your group will have a 2 hour guided tour of Pompeii.The eruption of Vesuvius in 79AD buried this town under a mantle of pebbles, mud and volcanic ash.Today, the site has been preserved with original streets, house and works of art of the day.

Overnight:Sorrento area.

DAY 5:

Morning departure from your hotel for transfer back to Rome.A visit to the Catacombs can be made en route.

Depending on the time of your return flight, there may be additional free time in the afternoon for shopping.

Transfer back to your departure airport for the return flight to Ireland.
